LAHORE - Two motorcyclists were shot dead and three others wounded after one of their rival fired shot at them while doing stunts in Civil Lines police limits, sources in police said on Monday.
The sources said bet on a race was reason for the killing the differences, which developed over the betting on motorcycle race, led to the killing of two of the participants of the competition on Davis Road.
The gunfire also triggered panic and terror in the entire commercial area. Police said four motorcyclists, unidentified so far, opened straight fire on a group of motorcyclists as the residents of Misri Shah appeared at the Davis Road for the race.
An eyewitness told the police investigators that the gunmen chased the motorcyclists for a few minutes before shooting them with automatic weapons.
Five motorcyclists sustained serious bullet wounds and were rushed to the Services Hospital, where two of the wounded were later pronounced as dead.
The deceased were identified as Farzand and Awais.
The condition of Qasim, Sohail, and Touseef was said to be critical until Monday night. The killers managed to flee. The police shifted the bodies to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating with no arrest so far. The police have also registered the case against four unidentified men on the complaint of Muhammad Hanif, father of deceased Farzand.
The trend of gambling on motorcycle race is growing in the provincial capital, where one-wheeling has become a regular phenomena. Dozens of youngsters are killed and seriously wounded in such accidents every year in the city.
Woman moves court
An additional district and sessions judge on Monday directed the Icchra station house officer to submit reply to an application filed by a woman to get registered an FIR against her brother over property issue.
Ayesha, a resident of Icchra, moved court, saying that her brother Umar Farooq occupied her property. She told the court that the SHO refused to entertain her application for getting the case register. The court sought reply from the cop and adjourned the hearing until August 22.
She said her brother also withdrew heavy amount from the account of her father Akram Hussain. The appellant further said she was deprived of her legal right and requested the court to direct the SHO to register FIR against her brother.
SHOT DEAD
A 78-year-old man was shot dead in the North Cantonment area on Monday. The deceased was identified as Rahmat Masih, a resident of Guldahst Town.
Police said Safdar Masih, the son of the deceased, had contracted love marriage with Rani Bibi some four years ago.
