LAHORE – Acting Punjab Inspector General of Police Khan Baig has reinstated the services of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), who was suspended from service on serious allegations of corruption and criminal negligence a couple of weeks ago.
Sources in the police said on Tuesday that Khan Baig reinstated the services DSP Barki Circle Muhammad Attique Sindhu to ‘oblige’ some influential.
Police sources believed that the DSP is likely to be appointed in the same circle from where he was removed.
According to sources, the DIG (Operations) had recommended to the IGP disciplinary action against the DSP for showing criminal negligence in a triple-murder case and patronising the criminals rather than making their arrests.
In the light of the report of the DIG, the IGP suspended the DSP from service. However, the services of the police officer were restored on Tuesday.
When contacted, DSP Attique Sindhu said the IGP reinstated him after some misunderstandings were cleared as he was innocent.
Also, the IGP ordered the police officers to work in the fields to downgrade the crimes rate in the provincial metropolis. He also said that in order to control crimes the officers would not only have to go in the field but also ensure proper monitoring of the incidents of crimes taking place in their respective divisions.
The best investigations officers should also be sent in the field to bring the culprits to justice by ensuing timely investigations of the cases.
Khan Baig issued these directions while presiding over a high-level meeting held at the CCPO Office to review the law and order situation in Lahore on Tuesday.
CCPO Amjad Javed Saleemi, DIG (Operations) Tahir Rai, DIG (Investigations) Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed. SSP (Operations) Sohail Akhtar Sukhera, SSP (Investigations) Babar Bakhat Qureshi, and PSO Muhammad Ali Nako Kara were also present on this occasion besides all the divisional SPs.
The IGP also urged the officers to ensure monitoring of the buyers of stolen or snatched valuables including mobile phones, vehicles and motorcycles because strict check on such elements would help police control crimes to a considerable extent.
Khan directed the officers to devise an effective strategy to keep a strict check on those involved in the business of prize bonds and its illegal trade. Police officers were also directed to properly monitor the missing persons in the 4th schedule, disputes related to the control of Masajids, and the officials awarded punishment on the charges of negligence or misuse of powers.
The IGP also underlined that the police officials should be sensitised by awarding strict punishments to the tainted-cops in order to improve working of the department. The senior officers should never support their subordinates unnecessarily so that the black sheep could be kicked out from the department. The IGP urged the officers to maintain the data of crimes incidents reported in all the seven model police stations in Lahore. The concerned SPs were also directed to personally monitor the working of these police stations besides maintaining computerized record of the complaints registered with these police stations.
On this occasion, CCPO Lahore Amjad Javed Saleemi suggested that following the pattern of Sargodha police region, special software could be installed in the computers in all the police stations to keep the record of the cases from registration of the FIR to the progress in the courts with detailed information. The IGP agreed to the proposal and directed the CCPO Lahore to begin work to implement the plan at the earliest.
