LAHORE - Condemning May 12, 2007 carnage of Karachi, lawyers marked Monday as a Black day, with demands to the government to bring the culprits to justice and compensate victim families.
The lawyers boycotted courts with black bands on arms and hoisted black flags at bar associations. The bar associations held meetings to express their grief over the killing of innocent people, particularly lawyers in different parts of the country. The lawyers expressed serious concerns over the failure of the government regarding arrest of the culprits involved in killing of lawyers in Karachi in 2007.
They said seven years had been passed to this incident but still nothing was done. They paid tribute to deceased for their continuous struggle for supremacy of law and the constitution.
The Lahore High Court Bar Association passed a resolution demanding that the killing of lawyers must be stopped in different parts of the country and former army dictator Pervez Musharraf should be stopped from going abroad.
The lawyers demanded to arrest the real culprits as soon as possible. They demanded the government to award reasonable amount to victim families as compensation.
On other hand, numerous cases were adjourned to other dates which created problems for litigants, especially for those who had come to Lahore from other cities of the province.
