LAHORE – Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) chairman started probe into the fire incident in a shoe factory on Bund Road which claimed about 25 lives on Tuesday and summoned the officers of concerned departments who were supposed to check the said factory, sources said on Wednesday.
They claimed that the factory was being run illegally with the connivance of staff of different departments who were supposed to check the factory. The factory building was constructed without the approval of the town municipal administration (TMA) concerned, its building plan was not approved, emergency exits were not provided and labor laws were also not being implemented, they further added.
Sources said the CMIT chairman and investigation team summoned the staff of the Environment, Labour departments and TMA concerned but they claimed that factory was constructed in the populated area and was not approved by these departments.
The inquiry team was headed by CMIT chairman and among its members included: Rescue director general, forensic director general, and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) professors and representative of police as well. A CMIT officer seeking anonymity said they were examining the facts to find out the real cause of fire eruption in the factory.
