Aadil Jehangir takes over the reigns

LAHORE - In this 54 holes golf championship, after 36 holes of intense activity at the Gymkhana Golf Course. Young Aadil Jehangir of LSE, a golfer of national reckoning made his presence felt by coming up with another superb round of net 69 and during the second round yesterday he demonstrated game of quality and through excellence on a wonderful golf course managed to dislodge the overnight top position holders. Yes, the first days leader Mustafa wilted under pressure and most of the 18 holes failed to come up with perfection. Whereas after two rounds Aadil Jehangir is the leader by three strokes, following him are Awais Lodhi at a net aggregate score of 141, Musatfa Rafi at net 143, Mohsen Zafar at the same score as Rafi, Mustafa Khan, Ali Anwar, Hussain Hamid at 144 and Muhammed Hassan Saeed at 145. In the second round yesterday there was no disputing the skills of Aadil and whether he can carry himself to achievement here in the final go and subsequently on the international golfing arenas will depend on his ambition and ability to completely devote his time and resources to the golf arena, once he completes his studies at LSE in March. After the second round Aadil stated "I played well today from tee to the green, as my rhythm and tempo were good. Expectations from competitors like Dr. Dildar Chaudry, Imtiaz Pervaiz, Shoaib Bokhari. Muhammed Waqas and Tariq Misbah were high but their winning threat to the frontrunners faded as they had to settle for modest scores. They lived rather dangerously during the second round and are now out of contention. The gross section leader is also Aadil Jehangir with gross card of 70 on each of the two rounds that he has played in this championship. Five strokes in arrears is Muhammed Safdar of Gujranwala, M. Rehman is at 150 and Mohsen Zafar at 153. In the ladies event Shazadi Gulfam of Punjab Police created quite a stir as she holed in one the par 3, 12th hole. Her 7 wood shot landed on the green and headed for the hole, and the ladies in her flite Mrs Asma Shami and Tahira Nazir virtually carried her to the green as a gesture of acknwledgement of her feat. In the seniors section Javed A Khan turned out to be the best one of the day with a gross round of 73. The final round on Sunday, today promises a challenging contest and though Aadil is loaded with golfing skills, some of the contenders promise to make a contest out of it.
