Notice issued to Wapda in contempt petition

LAHORE - Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court Monday issued notice for January 21 next year, to Pepco, Wapda and minister for water and power in a contempt of court petition filed against what the petitioner says, unscheduled load-shedding in violation of the previously passed order of this court. The petitioner has also called in question two per cent raise in tariff and discrimination being meted out to people about the load-shedding hours. The petition has been filed by Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi of Save Judiciary Committee through advocate Mateenul Haq contending previously the authorities had promised before the court to beforehand inform the citizens about the load-shedding schedule employing the means of internet and media but load-shedding has been kicked off again without passing prior intimation and schedule to the masses. He also contended that power two per cent tariff is being raised with the approval of Nepra in order to please IMF which does not want to let the people relief in their problems. The petitioner contended, that unscheduled load shedding is falling hard on the students and the patients along with the general public. The petitioner prays to the court for taking contempt of court action against the power authority for not abiding by its commitment. Pleading before the court , the counsel also accused the power distribution authorities of giving discriminatory treatment to the public by way of exempting Chief Minsters House, Governors House, Defence Areas from loadshedding while burdening the people with extra hours of the same
