Faiz Ahmed Faiz remembered as crusader of peace and love

LAHORE The Lahorites on Sunday enjoyed the Faiz Amn Mela, held at Open Air Theatre, Jinnah Garden in connection with the centennial celebrations of the celebrated Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, with usual enthusiasm. It was organized by Pakistan Television. Noted celebrities of the Indian film industry, including Shabana Azmi and her husband, renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtrar, Rajendra Gupta, a well known Indian film, television and theatre actor and director, Atul Tiwari, an acclaimed writer and director, Ila Arun, renowned actor, singer, writer and producer, and stage and TV actor-singer Lubna Salim paid rich tributes to Faiz Ahmed Faiz. They remembered him not only a poet for the Pakistanis but as one also admired and celebrated in India and other parts of the world. Saleema Hashmi, daughter of Faiz Sabib was also present on the occasion who thanked the Indian guests for being here to commemorate centennial celebrations of his beloved father. While sharing her feelings, she said she and Muneeza, the other daughter of Faiz, were not only the daughters of Faiz but every woman was his daughter. She said Faiz was crusader of peace and love who worked and wrote for commoners all his life. Shabana Azmi said she was inspired by Faiz since her childhood. She said she was here with the message of peace and love. On the occasion, Shabana also sang a famous poem of Faiz Sahib 'Bol Keh Lab Azad Hen Terey. Later all the guests danced on the beat of drum. A galaxy of artists and singers had gathered on the occasion. Renowned singer Tarrannum Naz sang verses of Faiz and also some other Punjabi stuff which was enjoyed by audience. Jatt Brothers (Faisal Jatt and Abbas Jatt) performed on Nautanki while Ameen Tedi performed Bhangra on drum beat. Renowned fold singer Arif Lohar, Malko, Anjum, Ragni, Waris Beg, Rabi Pirzada and others also performed on the occasion.
