Nawaz govt not interested in LG polls: Jamaat

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami stated on Monday holding local bodies elections was the constitutional responsibility of the government, but Nawaz Sharif-led government was taking no interest in that, nor was it obeying the Supreme Court orders.
This was stated by Jamaat secretary general Liaquat Baloch while talking to newsmen after addressing Seerat conference at Mansoora.
Earlier, other speakers said that lasting peace in the world was possible only through adherence of the faithful to the golden teachings of Islam.
The speakers, who belonged to different religious parties, said the present unrest in the world was due to the United Nations and the US. They impressed upon the rulers to throw away the yoke of US slavery and become true followers of the holy Prophet (PBUH) instead in order to make the country free of terrorism, lawlessness and other social and economic problems.
Other speakers included Jamaatud Dawa leader Maulana Amir Hamza, JUI-F’s Maulana Amjad Khan, Maulana Abdur Rauf Farooqui of JUI-S, Maulana Abdul Maalik, Pir Syed Haroon Ali Gilani and Hafiz Muhammad Idrees.
Liaquat Baloch said Islam is the state religion of Pakistan and no law repugnant to Islamic teachings could be passed in the country. He said certain forces were out to demolish the foundations of Pakistan, and made it clear to them the Pakistani nation stood united for enforcement of the Islamic system and there was no room for a secular system in the country.
He said whenever the government and national leadership stood united for talks with the Taliban, a drone attack sabotaged the move. He said there were plans for a fresh army operation in the Tribal Areas that would prove to be disastrous. He further said the rulers were destroying the Islamic culture and values only to secure loans from the International Monetary Fund which the nation won’t tolerate.
Maulana Abdul Maalik said the holy Prophet (PBUH) had changed the world scene through his teachings. He said peace in the world was possible only through enforcement of Islamic system based on justice and equality.
Maulana Amjad Khan said religious forces must unite to foil conspiracies of the secular lobby. He said the Prime Minister’s Youth Loan scheme based on interest would only bring disaster.
Maulana Amir Hamza said the rulers were devouring the loans issued by the IMF and the World Bank and the whole burden was passed onto the poor masses. Maulana Abdur Rauf Farooqi said the holy Prophet (PBH) had freed the humanity from the clutches of oppressive and evil forces; however, the same oppressive system was thrust on “our people due to our rulers”; therefore, the masses should rise against the oppressive system.  Pir Haroon Ali Gilani said the parties and groups based on sects and factions had divided the ummah.
JI warns govt against privatization move: Jamaat-e-Islami deputy chief and KPK senior minister Sirajul Haq said on Monday the country was under the control of economic and political terrorists.  Addressing a JI workshop at Mansoora, he said the rulers had disappointed the masses within a short period. He said the government was going for privatization of major institutions only to oblige its cronies. He warned the very step would lead to massive unemployment.
