Differences surface over principal issue

LAHORE - Differences have surfaced among the office-bearers of Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Punjab University over the issue of Principal College of Earth and Environmental Sciences wherein he is under investigation by local police for sexually harassing females of the varsity. Academic Staff Association Secretary General Javed Samih in a letter to President of the association Mehar Saeed Akhtar said later was involved in twisting the facts and having soft corner for the accused Iftikhar Baloch. Javed asked the president that he had issued the press release without his consent and the press release got signed by him (Javed) was tampered later on. In the letter, he further clarified that the public relation department neither failed in stopping the media to publish the news of the principal nor the media was under the direct control of the PR Department. He said Academic Staff Association would never recommend to stop action against accused as it was matter of sanctity of the daughters and female students of the nation. He said matter was under investigation with local police and a departmental inquiry was also underway which would be shortly completed.
