LAHORE - Punjab Inspector General of Police Khan Baig Friday confirmed the arrest of a terrorist from the premises of Lahore Railways Station during an operation a couple of days ago.
The IG disclosed the arrest during a prize distribution ceremony to reward the policemen, at the Central Police Office (CPO), who took part in the operation and arrested a terrorist from the railway station.
While addressing the participants, the IG said department felt proud of officials who put their lives at risk and fought bravely against terrorists. Lahore DIG Tahir Rai, AIG Romail Akram and PSO to IG Muhammad Ali were also present on the occasion.
The IG told the media that some cops were on routine patrolling in the Nolakha police limits when they noticed a suspected person. As they tried to stop him, the suspect on foot tried to flee. He was captured immediately and the police recovered a bag from his possession which was containing 4kg explosive material. The cops with the help of bomb disposal experts managed to defuse the explosive device. The IG said the arrested terrorist was identified as Abdul Nabi, a resident of Kundh Kot, Kashmir.
He is being interrogated by investigation team but the police are yet to establish his link with any militant group, the police chief added.
Khan Baig during this session, distributed certificates and cash prizes of Rs55,000 each to Constables Iqbal, Muhammad Shafique and Anjum. The chief also gave cash prizes of Rs27,500 each to Sub Inspector Shahid Hussain and T-ASI Nauman besides commendatory certificates.
