Free laptops for students soon

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHROE - The project of provision of free laptops to the male and female students of government colleges and universities on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been given final shape. According to this project, laptops will be given to 20 thousand children in the first week of February 2012 and laptops will be distributed among all the students fulfilling the merit till April 2012. This was decided at a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Provincial Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. Planning & Development Chairman Javed Aslam, Secretary Higher Education Dr. Ijaz Munir, Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Dr. Umer Saif, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Government College University Vice Chancellor Dr. Khaleequzaman, educationist from LUMS Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Director General Public Relations Tahir Raza Hamdani, Additional Secretary School Education Muhammad Hassan, Deputy Registrar Lahore College University Uzma Batool and Deputy Secretary Higher Education Kashif Faraz Ahmad attended the meeting. The meeting decided that every laptop will be linked with WiFi / Internet System. The meeting decided that all Ph.D / M.Phil / LLM / MS students will be eligible for computer whereas all those students of BS (4-5 years programme) and got 70 per cent or above marks in the last semester and those students of MA / MSc (2 years programme) who got 60 per cent or above marks in the previous exam.
