Judicial probe into Taseers murder soon: Kaira

LAHORE (APP) - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that judicial inquiry of Salman Taseer's murder would be ordered soon after the investigation team submits its report. Talking to media outside Taseer's residence here on Friday, he said, "Taseer's assassination was a huge tragedy for the PPP. The country is facing a new wave of extremism and elimination of this mind set is necessary for the survival of Pakistan. To a question, he said that the Punjab government must play its due role in the investigation of the murder of a stalwart and constitutional head of the province. Regarding Nawaz Sharif's 10-point agenda, Kaira said that the reservations put forth by the PML-N Quaid were shared by PPP as well as the leadership of major political parties in the country including PML-Q, ANP and MQM. Referring to government's willingness to take all parties along, he said that all constitutional amendments and 95 to 96 percent legislation had been enacted with the consensus of entire political leadership and PPP would continue to build consensus on issues in future. He said that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had constituted a five-member committee to hold consultations with PML-N and other political parties. About implementation of judiciary's decisions on various cases including the NRO, Kaira said: "We are not defying the apex court but have filed a review petition as per the law and the Constitution of the country." Kaira said that PPP government would also put its point of view before other political parties on NRO. The federal minister dispelled the impression that political parties were involved in the law and order situation in Karachi, adding that political parties work for political gain and they had nothing to do with the killings of innocent people. Kaira said that it was the need of the hour to dig out the causes of prevalent law and order situation in Karachi since its issues were neglected in the past. He expressed deep grief over the murder of a journalist in Karachi. Regarding Khosa's appointment as Punjab governor, he said that Latif Khosa was a seasoned lawyer and his elevation as Punjab governor would augur well for the Centre and Punjab relations. Kaira said that there were certain causes behind the rise in the prices of petroleum and other commodities and the government would reach a national agenda with the support of other political parties to overcome price hike in the country. Earlier, the federal minister met Taseer's family, expressed condolence and offered fateha for the departed soul.
