LAHORE - Parts of the country including Lahore remained in the grip of cold wave yesterday with experts predicting increase in its intensity during the next 2-3 days.
Experts say that cold winds from the north will enter upper parts of the country that will cause increase in the intensity of cold wave in coming days.
Skardu remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 10 degree Celsius below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gupis was recorded -06C, Astore and Parachinar -05C, Kalat and Malamjabba -04C, Kalam, Dalbandin, Quetta and Dir -03C, Gilgit -02C, Murree, Chitral, Zhob and Rawalakot -01C. Maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 16C and 05C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 83 per cent.
According to the experts, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is affecting extreme northern parts of the country and likely to move northeastwards during next 12 to 18 hours.
Local meteorological department has forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country during the next couple of days.
However, mostly cloudy weather conditions with light rain/snow are expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Foggy conditions would continue to prevail over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
