LAHORE - A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday disposed of a contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. Petitioner Engineer Ghulam Jilani had moved a contempt petition against the prime minister for uttering remarks about presidents dual office case pending in the court. The full bench, comprised of Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Justice Ch Iftikhar Hussain, Justice Sh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman, heard the case. The bench observed that a statement of prime minister about dual office of President did not fall in the category of contempt of court because it was a political statement and the PMs statement was against the court. Petitioner Ghulam Jilani showed a desire that he wanted to withdraw his petition when he noticed that there was no point left his petition after remarks of the judges in the bench. In view of petitioners request the bench instead of dismissing the petition disposed it of as withdrawn. In his application Engineer had stated that the prime minister made remarks about presidents dual office, which amounted to contempt of court. He submitted that as the matter is pending before the court and even the prime minister through comments could not pass verdict on it. The applicant stated that due to his remarks the prime ministers may be tried for committing contempt of court. Engineer Ghulam Jilani had filed a constitutional before the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging Asif Zardaris holding office of PPP co-chairperson and president of Pakistan.
