LAHORE – The funeral prayer of acting Nazim of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) Awais Aqeel was offered at University Law College, Punjab University here on Monday. Awais Aqeel, a student of PU Law College was killed by accused Abrar Watto and his companions on Sunday late. The funeral prayer was led by Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Liaqat Baloch. A large number of JIT activists, JI leaders including Dr Waseem Sajjad, Mian Maqsood Ahmed, Hafiz Salman Butt, teachers and students attended the funeral prayer. On the occasion, IJT activists blamed that PU administration was responsible for the killing as it illegally enrolled the accused in Law College. They also demanded of the Punjab government to take notice of the issue and arrest the murderers immediately. On the other side, educational activities were remained suspended in many departments of the varsity.Examinations in some students were also cancelled however university administration did not issue any notification for the cancellation of examinations. According to the sources, Abrar Watto, alleged killer was also remained IJT Nazim of PU Law College. He left the university and went England for studies but after some months he came back and again enrolled in the college. “The Sunday’s gory drama was ugly game of power. He (Abrar) wanted to take back his position in IJT and wanted to become Nazim again, but he was denied. Due to which the scuffle started between Awais and Abrar,” the IJT sources said. IJT announced mourning day on Tuesday (today). While talking to the media after funeral prayer, Liaqat Baloch said that some elements wanted to destroy the peaceful environment of the varsity. IJT Nazim Zubair Safdar said that if the murderers of Awais Aqeel were not arrested in 24 hours, the government would be responsible for the circumstances. He said university administration had failed to protest the students and teacher in the varsity.
