LAHORE A larger bench has been sought to hear the petition against former two-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The sitting Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Ch referred the matter to CJ-designate Sheikh Azmat Saeed to seek constitution of the full bench.
On the petition of Allay Imran filed through Barrister Muhammad Iqbal Jafree, Justice Ijaz Ch remarked that since he had been named for elevation to the Supreme Court as such propriety demands the upcoming Chief Justice should do the needful.
The petition was filed some 20 years ago which now has been refreshed with the incorporation of new facts presented by the petitioner.
The petitioner does not want Nawaz Sharif being elected to the Parliament and enjoying a public office, alleging that previously in the office the respondent abused his power to make money from the national kitty and siphoned the same through his agents, off to foreign states.
The petitioner estimates $two billion directly and indirectly sent abroad for the former prime minister and wants the money to be brought back through judiciary to shore up the dwindling economic condition of the country.
The petitioner has also questioned the foreign assets of Nawaz Sharif.
Last day, the petitioner told the court that the matter was last heard by a three-Bench full Bench so the bench of the strength may be set up to proceed with the matter.
MNA: Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Monday called for a reply from the respondents to a petition earlier filed to seek disqualification of PML(N) MNA, Rana Zahid.
