Conscious nation up as brutalised bud back to consciousness

LAHORE - Terrified and traumatised, five-year-old Sumbal regained consciousness on Saturday – more than 48 hours after she was found dumped outside the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore.
“Her condition is getting stable since she underwent two complex surgeries,” said one of the doctors examining the girl at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Services Hospital.
The doctor, who requested not to be named, hoped that her condition would improve in a few days. He said: “The surgeons had to perform two procedures to save her.”
But some other hospital sources said the girl was still in serious condition. Though she had started responding to the treatment, she remained restless throughout the day when the doctors took her for examination, they said, adding, the experts also took DNA samples.
“She is facing serious complications and unable to pass stool and urine,” according to her medical report, prepared by a three-doctor team that underwent operated on her.
As per the report, her body bore sever torture marks. Police and medical experts said the girl had started speaking to her parents and doctors.
Talking to media at the Services Hospital, Punjab Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu said a team of senior doctors was treating Sumbal and best treatment facilities were being provided to her.
“If needed, the girl can also be sent abroad,” he said. Member Provincial Assembly Saba Sadiq, Health Secretary Hassan Iqbal, Information Secretary Momin Agha and other officials were also present.
The minister that the chief minister has directed police officials to apprehend the accused at the earliest and health authorities for providing best treatment facilities to girl. He said that police and investigation agencies will soon arrest the accused involved in this inhuman act. He said that best treatment facilities are being provided to the girl.
Member Provincial Assembly Saba Sadiq while talking to the journalists said that the parents and relatives of the girl are satisfied with the treatment facilities being provided to her by the government.
