Zakat through Easypaisa now

LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr Nadeem Kamran has said that payment of Zakat will be made to the deserving through branchless banking.
At the signing ceremony of MoU between the provincial Zakat and Ushr Department and Telenor on Sunday, the minister said that branchless banking would help prompt and easy distribution of Zakat among the deserving through Telenor EasyPaisa. He said that amount of subsistence allowance had been enhanced from Rs500 to Rs1000 per person, while Zakat would be paid after every three months. Nadeem said that it had also been decided to increase marriage grant for the deserving girls from Rs10000 to Rs20000. “The decision has been taken to save deserving people from the problems in opening bank account and encashment of cheques,” Nadeem added. Initially a pilot project will be started in this regard in three districts Lahore, Sheikhupura and Hafizabad, while later scope of this scheme will be extended to all districts.
Secretary Zakat and Ushr Habib ur Rehman Gillani, Administrator Zakat Muhammad Yousaf Butt, Telenor Vice President Yahya Khan, Business Services Director Shahzad Najam, Tameer Bank CEO Nadeem Hussain and Vice President Aslam Hayat were present on the occasion.
