ASI succumbs to hectic training

LAHORE - A probationary Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) died owing to hectic training at the Police College Training, Sihala on Sunday afternoon leaving a wave of sorrow among over 650 under training ASIs, sources confided to TheNation.
The deceased was identified as ASI Javed Hassaan of Dera Ghazi Khan. The colleagues of the deceased cop phoned this scribe and informed about the alleged unlawful enforcement by Commandant College DIG Rasool Zahid and Deputy Commandant Captain(r) Sohail. They said the deceased on Saturday informed his colleagues about pain in left side of his body. On Sunday, he consulted a local doctor who suggested few medicines but he kept complaining about the pain. “We were shifting him to a nearby hospital but Javed died on the way,” an ASI told this reporter.
He further said the medical staffer fully knew about the reason behind Javed’s death but due to his position of a government servant he is mum over the sad demise. According to him, the commandant of the college often awarded punishment of front-rule (juggling jumps) which was against the Standard Operations Procedures of Elite Police.
According to the SOP, up to 35 years of age no law enforcement officer could be asked for hard physical training. Similarly, the statistical evidences revealed that out of 650 ASIs around 35 percent officers had crossed the age limit of 35 years and were trained at the Sihala College. Two ASIs, on the condition of anonymity, said the saga of irregularities had shocked them at the training center, where the training officers and law officers were following the stereotype method of training.
“I questioned Chief Law Instructor Inspector Arshad Kinyani about legality of the process of investigation but he could not satisfy me and my colleagues,” an ASI stated. Similarly, he said that the training which was imparted at the training center was based on stereotype and traditional methods which could not be implemented.
