Boys outshine girls in Inter exam

LAHORE - The boys have outclassed girls by grabbing two out of the top three positions overall in the Intermediate Part-I and II (Combined) Annual Examination 2008. Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore here Friday announced the result with 51.54 pass percentage, as 55,704 out of the total 108,072 candidates were declared successful. Ahsan Ismail of Government College University (GCU) Lahore, clinched the overall first position by securing 1026 out of 1100 marks, Maryam Javed of Government Kinnaird College for Women (GKCW) Lahore, stood second with 1024 marks and Waqar Ali of GCU Lahore remained third with 1023 marks. BISE Lahore arranged a ceremony in honour of the position-holders at Children Library Complex, where the top three overall and discipline-wise position-holders were awarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. They were also awarded medals and distinction certificates, however, the overall first position-holder Ahsan Ismail was also presented a Pentium-4 computer. Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman gave away the prizes and medals to the toppers. In the Pre-Medical Group (among boys) the toppers are Muhammad Umair, first with 1012 marks, Haris Abdullah second with 995 and Muhammad Usman Farooq third with 993 marks. In Pre-Medical Group (among girls), Wardah Malik was first with 1018 marks, Mariam Baig second with 1004 marks while Fizza Mobasher and Aneeqa Nasir Qureshi share the third position by securing 1000 marks. In Pre-Engineering Group (boys) Ahsan Ismail secured first position with 1026 marks, Waqar Ali second with 1023 and Rizwan Tariq third with 1019 marks. In Pre-Engineering Group (girls), Maryam Javed was first with 1024 marks and Hadia Sajjad second with 1005, while Farah Latif and Zahra Tahir shared the third position with 1002 marks. Zain-ul-Abidin among the boys bagged the first position with 929 marks in General Science Group, Usama Tariq second with 920 and Mehroz Shabir stood third with 918 marks. Affira Atta clinched first position with 985 marks in General Science Group (girls), Memoona Javed second with 983 and Kiran Arif third with 975 marks. Muneer Hussain, Shehraiz and Asif Raza secured 929, 908 and 904 marks respectively and bagged the top three positions in the Commerce Group among boys, while Sana Qadeer, Humaira Manzoor (a private candidate from Lahore) and Huma Naz secured 935, 905 and 897 marks respectively and bagged the top three slots among girls. In the Humanities and Other Groups (boys), the top three position holder were two private candidates from Lahore, Malik Rafaqat Ali and Mehfooz Ahmad Bhatti, and Nokhaiz Rasool Cheema, who secured 910, 900 and 899 marks respectively. Among girls from the Humanities and Other Groups, Nomana Khalid grabbed the first position with 924 marks, Farah Tariq stood second with 921 marks and Fazeelat Ishaq was third with 918 marks.
