LAHORE-The episode of fall of Dhaka will be remembered on Wednesday (today)with a note of melancholy and an urge to self accountability to weed out the causes of disintegration and dissension which had led to that debacle. On December 16, 1971, 38 years ago, Indian Army in collaboration with Mukti Bahini, an armed wing of the Bengali separatists occupied Dhaka after a long resistance. The nation will also reiterate pledge to safeguard the national unity and integrity and at the same time to remain beware of Indian designs who played an instrument in the separation of East Pakistan through an aggression. Various political, social, cultural and educational institutions will organise public meetings, seminars and symposium to observe the day. Nazria Pakistan Trust in collaboration with Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust will organise a special sitting on debacle of Dhaka on Wednesday (today) at 10.30 am at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan. Lt. Gen (retd) Zulfiqar Ali Khan will preside. Punjab University Institute of Education & Research (IER)s Department of Elementary Education will hold a discussion on 'Fall of Dhaka in my eyes today in the Waheed Shaheed Hall here at New Campus. PU acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry will be the chief guest while IER Director Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar will chair the discussion. Prof Dr Muhammad Yousaf Siddique from Bangladesh and Justice (R) Javed Iqbal will address on the occasion. PU Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) will also organise a seminar on 'East Pakistan Debacle & Our Contemporary Responsibilities on Wednesday, Dec 16 at 10:30 am in the Seminar Hall of the Centre. PU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry will be the chief guest on the occasion. Department of Defence and Strategic Studies Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad Chairman Prof Dr Syed Riffat Hussain, Department of International Relations & Political Science University of Sargodha Prof Musarrat Jabeen and PU former Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakria will address the seminar. Punjab University Institute of Communications Studies (ICS) in collaboration with Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences will organise a seminar on the political and cultural reasons of fall of Dhaka at Hameed Nizami conference hall on Thursday (tomorrow) at 10 am. Rana Sanaullah, Mujib ur Rehman Shami, Zia Shahid, Dr. Mogheesuddin Sheikh, Gen (r) Rahat Latif, Sajjad Mir and Orya Maqbool Jan will address.
