LAHORE - A local court on Wednesday granted bail to Imran Siddique against the submission of surety bonds of Rs 0.2 million, a co-accused in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam of Rs 2.75 billion. The co-accused Imran Siddique had filed bail application through his counsel Fiaz Marth, who pleaded before the court that his client had nothing to do with the scam as his client was just a property surveyor. Fiaz said to grant loans was the responsibility of the banks instead as his client was not involved in the scam. deliberately, the counsel added. On this, the court accepted Imran Siddiques bail application against the submission of surety bonds of Rs 0.2 million. According to scam details, Habibullah Warraich as being minister of state and cabinet member during the Musharrafs regime had purchased hundreds of acres of government land at throw away prices and sold it to National Insurance Corporation (NICL) at ten times higher price. The accused had purchased land at the rate of Rs200, 000 per acre and after a short while sold it off to the NIC at Rs2,200,000 per acre, thus inflicting a loss of Rs1.68 billion to the exchequer.
