CPO flouts govt orders

LAHORE Sugar and sugar related products are being used at Central Police Office (CPO) negating the official orders, top police sources revealed on Wednesday. Earlier, in this regard, Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar issued special directives for CPO officials to avoid using sugar related things. According to a circular (No-SO-1/448/2010) issued by the Punjab government, "In order to ensure availability of sugar to general public, the chief minister is pleased to desire that use of sugar related products should be prohibited in all the public offices, administrative departments, attached departments, autonomous bodies/special institutions, district governments, TMAs and all field formations. It is, therefore, notified that henceforth, sugar and sugar related products shall not be used/served in any public office until further orders". The IG Punjab, when this circular received with the CPO, gave written directions to police officials/officers "Please circulate among all heads of police offices for implementation of instructions in letter and spirit continued in legal tender reference". However, sources claimed seconds after the orders were circulated the staff/officials of all branches of the CPO were enjoying special tea and other sugar-made cakes. An officer deployed at CPO, who requested not to be named, asked how it was possible to avoid using sugar and sugar related products. "Tea and other sweets are the best 'dishes to entertain if any guest visits my office so it is quite impossible to avoid its usage," he added. He, however, further claimed every officer/official was using sugar in his office as it was being served from the main canteen of CPO.
