Army generals responsible of Dhaka Fall: Nizami

LAHORE - Renowned politician and Senator S M Zafar has held the whole nation responsible for the Fall of Dhaka which, he said, did not happen due to any individual or group of individuals. He feared that at present once again situation like 1971 was being created and we as a nation should face such circumstances responsibly. He expressed these views while addressing a special sitting "Fall of Dhaka - its reasons and effects" held under the aegis of Nazaria-e-Pakistan Trust here on Tuesday. The ceremony was also addressed by Chairman NPT and Editor-in-Chief, Nawa-I-Waqt and The Nation, Majid Nizami. Vice Chairman NPT, Professor Dr Rafique Ah-mad, Maj Gen (r) Rahat Latif, Air Commodore (r) Tariq Majid, Moulana Muhammad Aslam Saleemi, Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Mian Aziz-ul-Haq Qureshi, former inspector general police Salman Khaliq, Commodore (r) Qaiser Mehmood, Col (r) Ikram Ullah and Professor Dr M A Soofi. Speaking on the occasion S M Zafar said that in 1971 Pakistan depended upon America and other countries and went in loss. Today there were also so many issues in the country which were being solved through guns instead of dialogues, he added. He asked Majid Nizami to come forward to reunite the scattered parts of Muslim League and command them. "We must not oppose army overall but we should oppose those few generals who are involved in overpowering the government", he said, adding our enemy country was making us isolated at international level very cunningly. India has signed agreements with Russia and also has become very close to the USA. He said PML(Q) was ready to support those parties struggling for the restoration of judiciary in the country. In his address Majid Nizami said that real fault lies in the army generals who did not let the political process promote in the country and preferred to takeover the government. He said when the downfall of General Ayube started, General Yahya jumped into power instead of handing the power over to politicians. This act of generals discouraged the people of Bengal who were of the view that if running the government was the job of generals only, then they would never come into power as there was only one Benagli general in the army at that time. He said there must not be any other Fall of Dhaka as there were raising slogans of Sindhu Desh and Pakht-unistan and for this political leadership should play its role and it should not provide reason to the army generals to take over the country. "I am seeing that if our rulers did not stop to bow before India, our army chief would be right to interfere once again" he maintained. Nizami demanded the army generals to develop good relations with East Pakistan as it was in the interest of both the countries. Dr Rafique Ahmad said in East Pakistan the Hindus had got control over education and economy owing to which they succeeded in their nefarious designs. He said declaring Urdu as national language did not lead to the tragedy. Indian semi-army organisation Mukti Bahni played its role in the separation. Begum Mehnaz Rafi said purpose of observing this day is to not repeat those mistakes due to which this tragedy took place. Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Majid said that Fall of Dhaka was first phase and now we were passing through second phase and we should be very careful. Dr MA Soofi said our 90,000 army surrendered which was not a matter of pride. Col Ikram Ullah, Allama Ahamd Ali Kasuri and Aslam Ali Saleemi also spoke on the occasion.
