LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has said that with a view to resolve the psychiatric issues of the affected persons of natural disasters, calamities and terrorism, the provincial psychological trauma center has been set up at King Edward Medical University.
Chairing a meeting of provincial steering committee constituted by CM Punjab for psycho-social trauma at Civil Secretariat on Friday, he said that psychiatrists would impart training to the officials of Police, Rescue-1122, teachers, doctors, nurses and also prepare training modules for media persons.
Additional Chief Secretary Syed Mubhassar Raza, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary School Education, Additional Secretary Home, DG Rescue 1122, DG Social Welfare, Additional Secretary Health (Technical), Director General Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC), Head of the Psychiatry Department KEMU Prof Aftab Asif, Associate Prof Ali Mehdi Hashmi, Prof Aftab Qadir head of Psychiatry Department PGMI and experts from Allama Iqbal Medical College and other institutions attended the meeting.
Kh Salman Rafiq said that in the first phase provincial psycho trauma center has been established in KEMU at Lahore. He directed that another two centers would be established in Multan and Rawalpindi and the services of psychiatrists of medical colleges and other educational institutions of the said cities should be acquired.
Additional Chief Secretary directed the health department to get prepared for training modules with the help of experts of KEMU and submit report in next meeting.
Prof Aftab Asif informed the meeting that first Psychological Trauma Center at KEMU would provide training to Police and Rescue-1122 officials from January 17. He said that training would be imparted in different phases. He said that these officials would be trained how to handle the affectees of any disaster and terrorism, and how to keep morale of such people high.
