PTV to launch English channel: MD

LAHORE – Pakistan Television Corporation Managing Director Yousaf Baig Mirza is determined to on-air PTV’s English channel soon.
“We are planning to launch PTV English within three months and the work in this regard is in progress,” said Mirza during an informal session with reporters here at a local hotel.
He said though the English channel was not financially viable it was need of the hour to launch it. “Some private media groups launched English channels but because of low viewership and consequent financial problems, they had to close.”
While talking about the objectives of a ‘financially-unviable project’, he said the basic purpose of the channel was to facilitate the international diplomatic community, foreign journalists and foreign visitors for understanding Pakistan.
He said the English channel was aimed at highlighting the culture and painting good image of the country. “Pakistan does not have even a single channel of English language and the international community have to rely on foreign media reports about Pakistan. PTV English is also aimed at providing a platform to our youth for building of their confidence and flashing their abilities,” Mirza added.
