‘Fellowship degrees issued to docs sans exams’
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has declared that College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan issued fellowship degrees to nearly 2,000 postgraduates without examination.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Registrar PM&DC Raja Amjad clarified that there is a big difference between an honorary degree and degree awarded to respective blue-eyed specialists/ professors without examination by the College of Physician and Surgeons.–Staff Reporter
He said CPSP for the last few years has been awarding FCPS degrees to blue-eyed specialists from all over Pakistan. These degree holders had never undergone these FCPS trainings and had never appeared in the prerequisite examination.
Mostly those doctors are awarded with FCPS degrees without examination who are running medical units or are in-charges of hospitals. He said this act has been done with the objective of enhancing CPSP'S vote bank (to get votes from their junior follows) for elections of their executive body.
He further revealed that approximately 2,000 fellow degrees without examination had been issued to different doctors of which CPSP is not providing details and these FCPS degrees were awarded without examination despite several reminders written by PM&DC time to time.
The registrar added that keeping in mind all these facts PM&DC has decided to collect result cards of all the FCPS degree holders in order to register them with PM&DC. This step is taken recently by the PM&DC to segregate actual fellows from those who do not have training or examination record.
