Notices served on SBP, Saad Rafique

LAHORE - Justice Khalid Mehmood of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday issued notices to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and PML-N MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique in a writ petition against seeking disqualification of the latter. Humayun Akhter of PML-Q filed petition against Saad Rafique alleging that the respondent MNA had concealed his assets while filing nomination papers. Humayun had lost his general election against Saad from NA-125, Lahore. He said the respondent won prize bonds of Rs 40.37 million during year 2003 to 2007 but did not mention their details before the election commission. He said Saad suffered disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution for being guilty of dishonesty and perjury. He prayed to the court to declare Saad as disqualified for holding the seat of Member National Assembly. The court issued notices for two weeks. Meanwhile, an election tribunal of LHC comprising Justice Sh Najam-ul-Hassan gave last chance to Humayun Akhter for recording evidences his election petition against Saad Rafique and defer hearing till June 18.
