Two killed in separate incidents

LAHORE - An elderly woman and a local trader were killed allegedly by robbers over resistance in separate incidents in the city on Monday. A 35-year-old trader was shot dead allegedly by two armed men in Misri Shah late night on Sunday while the woman was killed in Shafiq Abad area. Reportedly, Muhammad Illyas was returning to his Dehli Gate residence on his car along with his wife and cousin after attending a wedding party. As soon as they reached Chowk Nakhuda, suddenly two armed motorcyclists appeared there and held up the car riders at gunpoint. Illyas who was sitting on the driving seat ignored the robbers and tried to escape. One of the outlaws opened a fire which hitting head of Illyas and escaped from the site. He was immediately rushed to the Mayo Hospital with critical head injuries but died on the way. Locals and relatives of the deceased gathered on the spot soon after the incident and staged a strong protest demonstration against the innocent killing. Police registered a case against the unknown outlaws with no arrest so far. In Shafiq Abad area, police said a 60-year-old woman was found murdered from her residence early on Monday. The woman's son Raza Ali told the police that she was strangulated to death by robbers over resistance as 30 tola jewellery and 150,0000 cash was also missing from the house. He left his residence along with his children and wife late night on Sunday to meet their relatives. His elderly mother Maqsoodan Bibi was alone in the house at the time. When they returned a few hours later, they found the house locked from the outside. He started searching his mother at the homes of neighbors and some relatives living in the same area but to no avail. He started searching her whole the night. Early on Monday, he told the police, when he broke opened the door and entered the house, he found his mother lying dead in a room with deep wounds of sharp-edged weapons in her head. According to the police, the woman as first attacked by the robbers who injured her critically targeting her head with a sharp-edged weapon and then strangulated her to death. Police claimed a case has been registered on the complaint of woman's son Raza Ali who has nominated his cousin namely Raza Jafari in the FIR saying that the accused had a criminal record.
