LAHORE A first year student of MBBS has become a rolling stone between the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) and the Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) due to poor performance of the management of University of Health Sciences (UHS). The effected student was being threatened by the UHS VC to compromise on the negligence of management but he refused to do so. Yousaf Tanveer, son of Tanveerul Hassan, resident of Toba Tek Singh, was admitted by UHS in MBBS first year after he passed entry test and other examination wherein he got 863 marks. He was admitted to SIMS and his classes were started on December 20, 2010. Meanwhile, on December 30, the UHS issued an upgradation list of 22 students from different medical institutions to better ranking medical institutions. Mr Tousafs name was falling on number 22 in the list and he was upgraded from the SIMS to the AIMC. The SIMS management on the direction of UHS issued a letter in this regard and said: Mr Yousaf Tanveer, student of MBBS first year, who has been upgraded from the SIMS to the AIMC is hereby relieved wef January 1, 2011. His complete record with original documents is sent herewith for your information and further necessary action. The student moved to the AIMC and started classes there and he was allotted roll number on January 18. His fees and relevant record was transferred to the AIMC by the SIMS management. After issuance of roll number the management of AIMC declared him as regular student of the college and allotted him room in the hostel and college card was also issued for five year session. All of sudden a letter was issued by the principal office of the AIMC on February 23 asking the said student (Yousaf) to see the UHS Vice Chancellor on February 24 (next day). Yousaf told TheNation when he approached the VC he asked him to report back to the SIMS as his transfer to the AIMC was made due to misconception. The student said he refused to comply with the instructions of the VC saying in this way he would have to face study loss and he could not change his institution repeatedly. He requested the VC to punish the people who committed negligence instead of him (Yousaf) on which the VC became furious and asked Dr Naveed, sitting in his office to issue the orders of sending him back to the SIMS. While talking to this scribe, Yousaf said he would not report back to the SIMS as in this way his one precious year of study would be spoiled. He said he would go to the court to get justice. Spokesman of the UHS was not available to comment on the issue.
