UVAS inks MoU with ASF


LAHORE -The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF) have entered into a partnership to arrange various training, research and development activities. The ASF will provide financial and technical support for research in livestock and agriculture sectors.
The MoU was signed by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and ASF Deputy Chief Asad Zahoor here at Syndicate room on Friday. UVAS Faculty Of Veterinary Sciences Dean Dr Nasim Ahmad, Faculty of Bio-Sciences Dean Dr Ijaz Ahmad, Faculty Of Livestock And Business Management Dean Dr Habibur Rehman, External Linkages Director Dr Imtiaz Rabbani, Registrar Dr Muhammad Afzal, ASF Private Sector Development Specialist Shafqat Ali Sayed and Management Associate Faizan were present on the occasion. While addressing the meeting, UVAS VC explained that the university focused on result oriented research that would be beneficial in uplifting livestock sector. He said the institution had established two community farms at Ravi Campus and Pattoki whereas a modern dairy animal market has also been established at the Ravi Campus.
ASF Deputy Chief Asad Zahoor urged the management to disseminate research break-through to the market and stressed on grooming graduates in a manner that they would emerge as entrepreneurs instead of job-seekers.
The MoU will remain valid for five years.
Malaysian delegation visit UVAS
A Malaysian delegation of scientists met University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and discussed matters regarding livestock Halal products and academic pursuits.
Halal Development Cooperation Chairman Dr Tan Sri Dato and former minister Dr Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim led the delegation. Other members included representatives of Islamic Food and Nutrition Council, former VC and eminent engineer Shafiq Bhatti. The delegation also discussed areas of collaboration with UVAS.

Govt to encourage women participation in sports

LAHORE - Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that sports played vital role in the development of students and promotion of extra-curricular activities was important for their character-building. He assured that government would provide all possible facilities to promote active participation of women in sports. He maintained that through continuous practice and struggle Pakistan could regain its status at the international level. These views were expressed at the Government College University on the eve of cricket match between VC-XI and Old Ravians and concluding ceremony of 41st annual games at MAO College Lahore, here on Friday. Later, the Education Minister distributed prizes among the winners.
