LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that PML-N government is vigorously implementing a programme of public service as billions of rupees are being spent on welfare schemes of the masses.
He said that reforms are being introduced for capacity-building of government departments and improvement of administrative structure. He said that additional resources generated through promotion of strict financial discipline and austerity culture are also being utilised for the provision of facilities to low-income segments of the society. He said that the PML-N is fully implementing its manifesto of public service and welfare programmes for the masses have been initiated with funds of billions of rupees. He said that transparency, merit and standard are hallmark of the Punjab government.
He said that the PML-N and its leadership would come up to the expectations of the masses and sincere efforts would be made for steering the country out of quagmire of problems and putting it on the road of progress and prosperity.
He was talking to assembly members of various districts and party workers in Raiwind on Sunday. The CM said that shortage of electricity has become a serious issue due to negligence and inefficiency of the former rulers. He said that controlling of energy problem is of vital importance for development of industrial and trade sectors, promotion of investment and trade activities, elimination of unemployment and resolving of economic problems of the masses. He said that immediately after coming into power, the PML-N government attached top priority to the resolving of energy crisis and started taking practical measures for attracting foreign investment in energy sector.
The CM said that the PML-N government, led by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, is making round the clock efforts for ridding the nation of load-shedding. He said that a large number of local and foreign investors have expressed their complete confidence in the economic policies of the present government and are showing interest in investment in energy, infrastructure, transport and other sectors. He said that in view of the serious attitude of the government towards dealing with electricity problem, energy companies of China, Turkey, Germany, Canada and other countries are making agreements with the government for investment in power sector.
Shahbaz Sharif said that practical measures have been taken for speedy implementation of the agreements signed in energy sector. He said that work is being carried out expeditiously on the setting up of coal power plants.
He said that the efforts of the government for resolving energy problem will meet success and darkness will be removed from the country, while industrial process will accelerate and new job opportunities will be created.
The Chief Minister further said that promotion of good governance, elimination of corruption, maintenance of transparency, upholding of merit, improvement in living standard of the masses and bringing deprived segments of the society into mainstream of development has always been the mission of the PML-N government. He said that the government wants to the rid the people of the existing obsolete system which is a source of a number of problems. For this purpose, he said, information technology has been promoted in government departments for their capacity-building and provision of better services to the citizens.
The CM said that the project of computerisation of land record will be completed by the end of the current year to ensure transparency in property matters. He said that this project will result in ridding the people of Patwari culture, elimination of corruption, availability of correct information and preservation of land record.
The assembly members and party workers paid rich tributes to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for public welfare programmes, capacity-building of government departments and improvement of service delivery system and expressed the confidence that Punjab will become a model province and living standard of the masses will improve under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif.
They said that poor families are benefiting from the welfare programmes of the Punjab government led by Shahbaz Sharif while commendable steps have been taken for providing relief to the poorest.
