LHC rejects Rehman Malik's pleas for acquittal

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected appeals of Interior Minister Rehman Malik against his conviction in two references by the Accountability Court and sentence against the minister has been revived. Rehman Malik has decided to file appeal in Supreme Court against the verdict of LHC, according to sources. The Federal Minster had filed appeals in LHC for acquittal, in which, he said that the cases against him were registered on political grounds. A two-member division bench of Lahore High Court led by Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif heard the case on Monday. Rehman Malik was sentenced three years each in two cases by the Accountability Court. The minister was sentenced on charges of looting a house during a raid when he was Director FIA and the illegal use of government vehicles but these sentences were declared null and void after the introduction of NRO. The cases were reopened after the verdict of the Apex Court regarding NRO. The court earlier reserved the verdict and announced on Monday. According to legal experts, after rejection of appeals, Rehman Malik can be arrested any time.
