'Cultural activities fading away speedily
LAHORE The Literary Committee of Lahore Press Club (LPC) organised a welcome ceremony in honor of the writers, poets and intellectuals of the country at LPC on Monday.
On the occasion, a number of renowned literary personalities including Mehmood Sham, Shafqat Tanvir Mirza, Mohammad Ali Siddiquee, Anwar Sanrai, Azra Abbas, Dr Ziaul Hasan, Afzal Sahir, Mobin Mirza and others were present.
The LPC president greeted the honorable guests and threw light on organising the literary activity.
The participants while speaking on the occasion said the cultural activities were fading away speedily. They expressed grief over the functions held at the premises of protected monuments. They also highlighted the brief history of the foundation of the LPC and the impediments produced by the so called rulers in its establishment. The present venue of the LPC was allocated by a middle class Punjab ruler Ghulam Haider Wyne, the former chief minister of Punjab, they added.
While praising the role of Karachi Press Club to highlight the national issues, they maintained that it always raised voice against the dictatorship that led to boom of the cultural, social, modernism and literary activities.
They expressed their hope that the event would help revive the dialogue culture between the journalists and the literary men that was lost in past few years. The speakers also discussed the problems faced by the writers in the field of the journalism and how to address them.
