LAHORE-Newly constituted political alliance Pakistan Democratic Front (PDF), has called for putting the names of NRO beneficiaries on Exit Control List (ECL) to stop them from fleeing abroad by the time the Ordinance lapses on Nov 28 in light of the deadline set by the Supreme Court. Nawaz Gondal, Central Secretary Information, PDF talking to The Nation on behalf of the Alliance demanded to put the names of NRO beneficiaries on ECL and not to let them flee when Ordinance lapses after the deadline and the NRO cases come up before the court. Gondal said that MQM-H and Tanzim-ul-Ikhwan were likely to join the PDF in its workers convention on Nov 22. Earlier, Nawabzada Mansoor Khan, President of the new political alliance delivering a media briefing after the first meeting of the PDF on Monday said that the nine- party alliance was constituted to pull the country out of existing Constitutional, law and order and economic crisis. He said that the member parties of the Alliance have vowed to launch a joint struggle to the save the Federation, promotion of democratic norms and to solve the issues of the masses. Briefing on the objectives of the PDF, he said that the PDF was formed to restore the 1973 Constitution on Oct, 12, 1999 position, implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD), elimination of 17th Amendment, 58 (2)b, establishment of independent Election Commission, provincial autonomy, independent Parliament, supremacy of Constitution and law, independent judiciary, non-intervention of military in politics, accountability of NRO beneficiaries, establishment of independent Accountability Commission, safeguarding freedom of Press, eradication of price-hike, unemployment and terrorism, protection of rights of the minorities, promotion of religious harmony and paving the way for the middle classes representation in power structure. Nawabzada Mansoor Khan, President of Pakistan Democratic Party (PDP) was elected as the chief of PDF, while other central office-bearers include Syed Manzoor Gilani of Istaqlal Party who was elected as Senior Vice President, Khaksar Tehriks Hamid-ud-Din Mashriqi, Vice President, Pakistan Christian National Partys Joseph Francis, Vice President, Qazi Abdul Qadeer Khamosh of Jamiat Ulema Ahle-Hadith as Secretary General, Jamoori Watan Partys Abdul Rauf Sasooli, Joint Secretary, Mazdoor Kissan Partys Muhammad Afzal Khamosh, Joint Secretary, Malik Sikandar Awan, Joint Secretary, PDPs Nawaz Gondal, Secretary Information, Barrister Yousaf Akhtar, Deputy Secretary Information, Tamir Watan Partys Malik Aziz Awan, Secretary Coordination, Javed Bilal Zaid, Deputy Secretary Coordination, Mian Irfan Akram, Finance Secretary and Aleena Yasmin Tawana, Secretary Women Wing. It is pertinent to mention here that most of the member parties of the newly formed political alliance were part of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and signatory to CoD and were pursuing the same goals that were already being pursued by mainstream political party like Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The PML(N) is not in the folds of the new alliance, however, it is likely to gain weight and a political say given the circumstances in case it succeeds in winning support of the parties like Pakistan Tehrik Insaaf (PTI), Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and other nationalist parties that were previously part of the ARD and APDM, observers comment. At present the Alliance is not a heavyweight. However, in view of the history, alliances have been growing with the passage of time to prove catalyst of major political changes in the country.
