Governor raising funds in UK

LAHORE - Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar is in Scotland these days to raise funds for the flood victims in Pakistan.
According to a news release issued by the Governor House here, Ch Sarwar held meetings with different charity organisations and Overseas Pakistanis on Tuesday to apprise them of the massive devastation caused by the floods.
He told them that besides loss of previous lives, the floods had also destroyed different crops spreading over a vast area of land. The IDPs of North Waziristan were also awaiting help from the country men, he added.
The governor said that Overseas Pakistanis had always helped their distressed brethren in troubled times. He hoped they would repeat their previous performance this time also.
“I am here for the sole purpose of raising funds for the flood victims in Pakistan”, he said.
During his stay in Britain, Punjab governor is expected to meet former British Prime Minister Mr Gordon Brown who is taking keen interest to donate funds to increase literacy rate in Pakistan. The governor believes that Pakistan can not become a prosperous and economically strong country unless education is given top most priority by the government.
