LAHORE - The lawyers, representatives of civil society, political workers, students and traders along with citizens staged a protest outside Governor House for restoration of judiciary. The protest was organised by Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) in which representatives of Khaksar Tehrik, Tehrik-e-Insaf, Pakhtoon Khawah Milli Awami Party, Students Action Committee, Insaf Student Federation, labourers, traders and members of civil society also participated. Participants raised slogans for restoration of judiciary and trial of General (R) Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution after his impeachment. They also passed various resolutions that federating units, i.e., all provincial assemblies had shown vote of no-confidence against Musharraf and passed resolution to this effect, so he has no moral and legal right to rule on the citizens of four provinces and, therefore, in the best interest, he should immediately tender his resignation from the office of the president and put himself voluntarily for trial under Article 6 of the Constitution. They also resolved that Pervez Musharraf, apart from violating and subverting Constitution had violated the constitutional oath administered in 2002 under Article 42. He failed to strive to preserve the Islamic ideology which is the basis for the creation of Pakistan, always worked for his personal interest to influence his official conduct or his official decision, subverted, subjugated and violated the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, etc. They said Musharraf was not a constitutional president because his election was under challenge before the Supreme Court seven-member bench had passed the restraining order for proclamation of emergency. And when he had taken an oath the constitution was held in abeyance and he took the so-called oath during the proclamation of emergency. They also demanded America to release Dr Aafia Siddiqui because she is innocent and American government had failed to establish any charges against her since 2003. It was unanimously resolved to follow the policies and strategy laid down by the lawyers in National Coordination Council (NCC) meeting at Rawalpindi High Court Bar on August, 15 including the extension of deadline for restoration of judiciary by September 15. They said PML-N and PPP are duty bound to restore the judiciary to its November 2 position in view of Murree Declaration and the commitments made to the Nation in Charter of Democracy. They said minus one or minus two formula is actually Musharraf's idea and coalition government must foil it. They said public issues like price hiking, lawlessness, terrorism can only be solved if the judiciary is restored and allowed to do complete justice without any restrictions and pressures from any quarters. Mohammad Azhar Siddique, advocate, Chairman JAP speaking on the occasion had requested the government for decrease in prices of petroleum products because internationally the prices are on downward trend, so the government had no moral and legal right to charge exorbitant prices. Detailed Inquiry must be started against the Musharraf for illegally ruling on the citizens of Pakistan, brutal torture on the lawyers, journalists, political cadres and members of society, extra-judicial killings and murders, privatization of national assets to the enemies of Pakistan, selling of innocents Pakistan to Americans, attacks and killing of innocents in Lal Masjid, Bajour, Wazirastan and Baluchistan, 12th May and 9th April incidents, illegal detention of 60 judges of superior courts for more than four month and the murder of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
