YDA calls off strike

LAHORE - The Punjab Young Doctors Association has called off its strike at public sector hospitals in the City after getting assurance for the restoration of suspended medics on the issue of spurious medications at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, YDA Punjab President Dr Hamid Butt said that the court has directed restoration of suspended doctors and now there was no reason to continue the strike.
Dr Hamid Butt said that the government’s action had forced the YDA to go on strike as they did not accept the legitimate demands.  Dr Nasir Abbas, Dr Usman Dar and Dr Amer Bandesha were also present at the press conference.
Earlier, medics strike at public hospitals caused huge inconvenience to the patients. The protesting doctors forcibly closed down the outpatient departments and stopped their seniors from attending patients. Besides denying treatment to patients, the strike caused cancellation of hundreds of scheduled surgeries and angiography.
The attendants of patients also staged protests at various hospitals and demanding the government to take stringent action against the YDA.
