Polio workers on roads

LAHORE - Polio workers from different towns boycotted ongoing vaccination campaign and staged a sit in outside Jinnah Hall on Tuesday to protest against arrest of APCA Allied Health Staff president Salman Khan and nonpayment of dues for last four drives.
The sit-in by dozens of workers, including women, caused massive traffic jam on The Mall and adjoining roads. However, they called off their protest on the release of Salman Khan in the evening.
The protesting workers alleged that Salman Khan was implicated in a wrong case for raising voice for the rights of the community and for showing to media the unused measles vaccine dumped in a drain. They said that Rahat Butt, uncle of notorious Gullu Butt, got a theft case against Salman Khan registered with Faisal Town Police Station on the advice of Health Department officials.
They further said that the officials wanted to teach a lesson to Salman Khan for bringing a bad name to the department by showing dumped measles vaccine to the media.
Judicial Magistrate quashed the case and directed police to release Salman Khan.
