LAHORE – Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has directed strict action against those involved in illegal sale of hospital waste.
Chairing a meeting held here Tuesday to review arrangements for disposal of clinical waste, he directed installation of incinerators at DHQ Hospitals of 17 remaining districts.
Secretary Environment Saeed Wahla, Special Secretary Health Dawood Breech, Director General Health Punjab Dr Nisar Cheema, DIPH Prof Muaz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Health Technical Dr Anwar Janjua and other officers attended the meeting.
A Technical Committee was constituted for evolving effective system for hospital waste management. Director General Health Punjab will be the convener of the committee comprising one representative each from DIPH, solid waste management, environment department, World Health Organization and UNICEF. The meeting was informed that incinerators have been installed in 19 districts of the province for disposing of the hospital waste. However, some incinerators are not functional due to technical reasons.
