LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday ordered the Ministry of Religious Affairs to allot quota to Haj Group Organisers which had given bids from Rs 190,000 to Rs 247,000 per pilgrim.
The court also asked the MORA to apprise the court about progress in this regard.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandail asked the MORA to grant quota of 910 Hajis to 18 HGOs. For eligibility of an HGO, the court held it is sufficient for an HGO to have three year experience for taking quota.
The court gave these directions to the MORA after dismissing the report submitted before the court wherein it had granted quota to different non- qualified HGOs.
The court was hearing various petitions of HGOs. Representing the petitioners, Advocate Azhar Siddique argued that the Ministry was awarding quota on the basis of personal liking and disliking ignoring the merit.
He said most of the operators included in the list had no previous experience and some of them did not even own their offices.
