Fire evacuation plan ordered in all public hospitals

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Saturday ordered the Punjab government to establish evacuation plan and fire safety staff in all public hospitals and to remove hurdles from outside the hospitals across the province.
In a two-page interim order, Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of the LHC ordered the Punjab government to establish emergency exits points in public hospitals and ensure end of encroachment from outside all the public hospitals.
The judge passed this order in petitions challenging deaths of people after fire erupted at public hospitals.
The judge ordered the health department to enforce the order in letter and spirit and submit report by May 12.
SUMMONED: The LHC on Saturday summoned the interior secretary in a petition challenging unnecessary verification of documents by Immigration and Passport authorities to issue passport to citizens.
The judge, in a 3-page interim order, observed that the people suffered due to poor performance of public functionaries. The court will resume hearing on April 30.
LHC yet to decide about woman who ran over three people in Youhannabad
A Sessions court Saturday reserved verdict in Maryam Safdar’s case, the lady who allegedly crushed three protestors to death while escaping from the fury of a mob in Yohannabad.
Maryam told the judge that a mob attacked her and started abusing her when she was passing by in her car. “I just drove away to save myself from their wrath,” she said. After hearing the accused and police officials, ASJ Naveed Iqbal reserved verdict in her case. The woman had earlier allowed interim bail.
