CDGL asked to execute uplift projects swiftly

LAHORE - The Punjab government directed the district administration to speed up development works in the provincial capital and gave priority to the schemes proposed by the MPs, sources revealed.
Sources in the City District Government Lahore said that government further directed the local administration to hold meetings with the elected representatives so that their priority projects could be started immediately after the monsoon.
“It seems the government issued such directions of speeding up the development work in consultation with MPs are part of preparations for the upcoming local bodies elections”, they added.
They said: “The CDGL is already working on over 500 ongoing miscellaneous and different natured development schemes in the provincial capital and in case the district administration gave priority to the proposed schemes of the MPs, the number of these projects could be increased up to 5000 approximately or more.”
Among the development schemes, construction and repairing of roads, streets, sewerage system of different areas especially residential areas besides the installation of water filtration plants with maintaining water supply lines to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to the public so that their complaints in this regard could be redressed, they added.
They said that for executing work on the proposed new development schemes, government allocated huge amount of more that one billion rupees initially which might be increased if the government felt that such amount is insufficient for the completion of such development projects.
The sources said that the provincial government earlier asked the MPs to prepare and submit development schemes for the union councils in their constituencies on which the elected representatives in consultation with party workers and their proposed candidates for the upcoming LG polls of their concerned constituencies.
Party leadership also had directed the MNAs and MPAs elected from provincial capital and other districts of Punjab seeking proposals for better election campaigns and also submit such suggestions with the lists of their priority development schemes before the issuance of any election schedule.
Moreover, the government also had advised the assembly members to add mostly projects and development schemes in their proposed lists keeping in view of public interests in order to get support of maximum number of voters and supporters, residing in their constituencies especially the projects benefiting the youth.
“Completion of ongoing projects and proposed development projects in the UCs of their constituencies must be the priority of the MPs because they could provide better support to the PML-N nominated candidates in the upcoming Local Bodies elections,” the sources added.
