Kasur child abuse suspect granted bail

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has allowed interim bail to a suspect of Kasur child abuse scandal.
Tanzeelur Rehman, himself an employee of LHC, was suspended the chief justice soon after he was nominated in the case. An LHC division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq was hearing Rehman’s petition on Tuesday, when his counsel argued that his client was implicated in the case merely on the statements of other suspects.
“The police nominated my client in four FIRs but failed to produce any cogent evidence,” he added. However, according to his lawyer, Rehman will join the police investigation to prove his innocence.
After hearing the arguments, the court accepted the petition and granted interim bail to the suspect, directing the accused to furnish two bail bonds of Rs100,000 each.
Meanwhile, the LHC bench restrained National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from taking any adverse action against directors and shareholders of a private mobile phone company.
Justice Haq took up petition of Nasir Saleem and other directors, in which they stated that the company had a financial dispute of Rs1.5 billion with State Bank of Pakistan while different cases were pending in high court and other courts.
But the bureau intervened and issued them notices after considering them defaulters.
“Under the law, NAB has no authority to recover money in financial matters already pending before courts,” their counsel pointed out and said the NAB officials were harassing his clients for recovery.
He requested the court to set aside the NAB notices and restrain its ‘intimidation’. After hearing the arguments, the court ordered the bureau not to seek recovery of money from the company from NAB. Seeking a reply from the bureau, the bench adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
