LAHORE - Deputy team leader of McKinsey Roadmap Team Haroon Sethi called on Chairman Punjab Education Foundation, Engineer Qamar ul Islam Raja, at his office here on Wednesday. MD PEF Dr Aneela Salman was also present on the occasion.
The PEF chairman briefed Sethi about the pace of expansion of various free education programs for the needy students and said that PEF had emerged as the most successful model of free school education for the deserving communities in Punjab, which has been commended by the international donors as well due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
He told that the education voucher scheme was being further extended due to its usefulness in meeting educational needs of the needy children. Needy students could study in partner schools of choice through PEF sponsored vouchers, he added.
“Similarly, other free educational programs are also being expanded so that no child is left uneducated,” he said, maintaining that PEF was greatly helping to meet enrolment targets of Punjab education sector roadmap program by arranging free education for out of school and dropout students in partnering schools.
The PEF chairman said that the partner schools were encouraged to provide library as well as play ground facilities for the students. “From now, coordination meetings will also be held at district level so as to have close and coordinated liaison with the partner schools,” he said further.
EDO suspends 10 teachers
Executive District Officer (EDO) Education Pervaiz Akhtar has suspended 10 absentee teachers of a girl high school of Thokar Niaz Baig during a surprise visit of the school on Wednesday.
He also issued show-cause notices to all of these teachers. The EDO visited the Government Girls High School at 8:00am and when reached the school campus, he came to know that teachers of the school including Zahida, Hifsa, Nasreen Naz, Raqaya Jabeen, Shahida Latif, Bushra Perveen, Shagufta Sher, Mubashra and Fareeha were absent from school without any intimation to the concerned persons. Later, the EDO also visited Government Boys High School Thokar Niaz Baig where a teacher Shahzad Farooq also was absent without any intimation on which the EDO also suspended such teacher.
