Rain paralyses life in City


LAHORE - Parts of the country including the City received rainfall of varying intensities on Friday, disturbing normal routine life as the rainwater inundated roads not only in low lying areas but also in several posh localities. Rains, snowfall over the hills, continuously blowing winds and overcast conditions bring back chill in weather by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level. Lahore received 14 mm rains.
On Friday, Kalat remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 13 degree Celsius below freezing point.
In Lahore, the rain started late Thursday night and continued intermittently throughout the day on Friday, adding to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as rainwater inundated on roads and roadsides. Inundated rainwater on portions of roads and slippery conditions caused massive traffic jams in every nook and corner of the City. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the City.
Maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 13 C and 6 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 100 per cent which decreased to 88 per cent in the evening.
People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy wet conditions. Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including women and children in the evening. Huge rush was witnessed at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Gulshan Park, Jillani Park, Jallo Park, Lahore Zoo and other picnic spots in the City. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on roads in the close vicinity of these parks.
According to the experts, a trough of westerly wave lies over Kashmir.
Local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with mist in the morning for the City during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast rain with snowfall over the hills at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions. Mainly cold weather is expected over remaining parts of the country. Foggy conditions are likely to prevail over plains of Punjab and upper Sindh.
On Friday, Kotli received 39 mm rain, Sialkot 38, Skardu 18 mm, Rawlakot 14 mm, Islamabad 12 mm, Garhi Dupatta 06 mm, Chilas and Muzaffarabad 04 mm each, Padidan 02 mm, Pattan, Khanpur, galgit, Mangla and Murree 01 mm each while Bahawalnagar and Hazara received traces of rains.
