LAHORE - The University of Engineering and Technology yesterday held its 22nd convocation at the new auditorium hall to award degrees and medals to the graduates.
A total of 58 medals were awarded to the outstanding students while 13 degrees of PhD, 53 of MPhil, 187 of MSc, 44 of MBA and 1,380 of graduation were handed to the young Engineers.
The first ever Iranian woman Sharia Hussaini got degree of PhD in architecture. Ayesha Liaqat from the field of chemical engineering and Enand Hafiz Ahmad Waqas from the civil engineering each won six gold medals.
Speaking as the chief guest, Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Javed Saleem Qureshi counted the government’s feats for better education. He also highlighted the importance of engineering in the field of education.
He viewed that Engineering education played key role in the progress of a country. Keeping in view the importance of Engineering, the Government was taking measures with the collaboration of other institutions to equip the youth with different technical skills, he said, adding that it would certainly have a healthy impact on investment and the economy at large.
Deans of different faculties including Dr Abdul Sattar Shakir, Dr Ghulam Abbas, Dr Suhail Aftab, Dr Shahid Rafique, Dr Nadeem Feroze, Dr Nadeem Mufti Registrar Muhammad Asif, Controller of Examination Nusrat Zargham and chairpersons of academic and administrative departments, alumni, prominent engineers and parents were also present.
Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamuddin vowed to provide better higher education opportunities to the students. Chairman PEC Javed Saleem Qureshi stressed the need to modernize the engineering education and other pedagogical techniques to find a prominent place for Pakistan in the ranking of developed countries. He said modern education in this filed will also help grab domestic and global markets. He was of the view that country was facing big crises and only the technological strategies could overcome these effectively.
UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid reiterated the resolve to continue efforts to produce a good lot of engineers. He also briefed the participants about significant statistics about the performance of UET in research, training, construction, expansion, development of curriculum and different MoUs signed with various organizations for the betterment and progressive activities of the university.
He said that UET was bridging the concrete liaison between academia and industry resulting into constructive change in the building of nation which would also be helpful in reducing the ratio of unemployment. Vice-Chancellor also presented a souvenir to the PEC chairman.
