Allegations levelled by DSP baseless: SPs

LAHORE - In the court of District and Sessions Judge (D&SJ) Lahore on Thursday two Superintendents of Police (SPs), Umar Virk and Zeeshan Asghar, rejected allegations levelled by DSP Imran Babar Jamil saying they did not ever pressurized him to release any terrorist or robber. They said the DSP was making baseless allegations against them as well as the police department and he had no proof of the allegations. D&SJ Zawwar Ahmad Sheikh was recording the statements of the SPs while holding judicial inquiry into the matter on the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The DSP who is now suspended could not produce any documented evidence in support of the allegation made by him. On this, the judge asked the DSP to produce some documented proof in support of his verbal statements and allegations. The judge adjourned further proceedings in judicial inquiry till today (Friday). The Inspector General of Police Punjab had suspended the DSP for levelling serious allegations against the two SPs and police high-ups. SP Umar Virk submitted before the sessions judge that the allegations of favouring the criminals against him were baseless. He said he even did not know DSP Jamil. He said he never asked him to release any terrorists. SP Zeeshan Asghar said he never asked the DSP to release the criminals and also did not extend him any threats. The SP could not give any satisfactory answer to the court when it asked him where were the accused Zaib, who was arrested by the DSP. The court for today (Friday) summoned Chaudhry Naseem, complainant in FIR, to record his statement. Investigation officer of the FIR submitted before the court that the DSP forcibly took four pages of the FIR without his consent saying that ink was dropped on these pages and they were damaged. He said he wrongfully implicated the accused in terrorism charges. In his statement DSP Imran said he had received a telephone call on behalf of SP Virk and SP Asghar who warned him to release the arrested robber namely Zaib if he (DSP) wanted to save his job. But I refused to obey such illegal order in result I was suspended without any show cause notice, he added. He said his suspension was illegal and baseless.
