Minister directs 100 pc utilisation of funds

LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs Dr Tanvir-Ul-Islam Rana Thursday directed the officers to ensure 100 percent utilization of funds released for various on going development schemes. He also directed that officers should stay at the Punjab House during official visits instead of staying in hotels of Murree to save extra expenditures. The minister was presiding over a review meeting of the department in the committee room of Lahore Arts Council. Deputy Secretary, Information Culture and Youth Affairs Department, Director General Archaeology Department, Haroon Ahmad Khan, Senior Officers of Punjab Arts Council, Lahore Arts Council and Directorate General Public Relations Development Wing attended the meeting and briefed the Minister regarding the on going development projects. The meeting was informed that 80 percent work has been completed on the on going schemes and the target of 100 percent utilizations of funds would be achieved by June 2010. The meeting reviewed the progress of establishment of museum in Kalar Kahar at the cost of Rs 11.293 millions. The meeting was informed that conservation of Kattas Raaj Complex is also in progress and so far Rs 8.990 millions have been spent on this project. Similarly, construction of an auditorium, at Gujranwala Arts Council is also uder way and Rs 11.032 millions have been spent on this project. Moreover, renovation of Shalimar Gardens is also being done and during current fiscal year Rs 46 millions would be spent on it. Whereas, the preservation/ renovation of Lahore Fort is also under progress and Rs 8.949 millions have been spent on it. The construction and repair of Shahi Fort, Shujaabad at a cost of Rs 12 millions is also in progress. Similarly, Rs 11.062 millions have so far been spent on the construction of the Auditorium in Dera Ghazi Khan Arts Council, the total cost of this project is Rs 14 millions. The meeting also reviewed the progress on the projects of establishment of Museum in Gujrat, digitalization of Lahore Museum and rehabilitation of Mausoleum of Shahab-uddin- Ghori. The Minister directed the officers to personally monitor the construction work besides making close liaison with the contractors for timely completion of these projects. Charity for IDPs Chairman ICI Waqar Malik called on Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here, Thursday and presented him a cheque of Rs.10 lakh for the rehabilitation of Swat affectees. Director ICI Ali Agha was also present on the occasion. Monis condemns The comments made by Punjab Chief Minister suggesting that the extremists should launch their terrorist attacks outside Punjab demand the most vigorous condemnation possible. PML (N) history is writ large with instances where national unity and interests have been compromised for ulterior motives. The people of Punjab consider Pakistanis living in other provinces as their brothers and sisters and value their happiness and well being as much as their own.
