Muslims, Christians clash averted

LAHORE The possible clash between the Muslim and the Christian community was stopped timely when the Racecourse investigation police arrested a 16-year-old boy involved in moral corruption here on Friday. As per details, the accused boy Sheraz Ahmed, student of 9th class, barged his entry into a home of Naveed Masih, resident of Servant Quarters of Mayo Garden located in the backyard of Muslim League House on Thursday. Police investigators, associated with this case, revealed that the boy found no body present in the home of Naveed except a seven-year-old girl Mehk Masih. He started misbehaving with the girl besides showing her objectionable pictures on his mobile phone, the Racecourse In-charge investigation Inspector Imran Yasir said. According to him, the boy was near to victimise the girl of rape when the father of Mehk reached home. He said the girl informed her father what happened before he approached the home while the boy managed to escape from the scene. Over 50 people from the Christian community approached the police station and threatened of staging a protest demonstration against the entire Muslim community. We somehow convinced them that this was only a single act, which might be taken by anyone without any discrimination of Muslim or Christian, he added. Police concerned, however, lodged an FIR (157/11) under section 364A against the accused boy on the statement of Naveed Masih on March 17. Meanwhile, the Civil Lines Investigation SP Cap (r) Liaqat Ali Malik approached the site and raided a home along with a good number of police contingents on Friday. During the raid the boy was arrested, who also confessed of his criminal act, the SP told this scribe. He said the police have also recovered a mobile phone besides screening the objectionable pictures. The SP said, The case was quite sensitive because a bit mishandling by the police may cause severe outcomes.
